How often should my piano be tuned?

Pianos go out of tune even if they are not played. Changes in humidity and temperature cause the piano (which is made of wood) to expand and contract, leading to tuning instability. O’Neill’s recommends tuning your piano at least once a year and, if possible, twice a year with the change of seasons for optimal maintenance.

How soon after delivery should my piano be tuned?

A newly delivered piano needs 6-8 weeks to acclimate to your home before its first tuning. This waiting period allows the wood and strings to adjust to the local climate, ensuring a more stable and long-lasting tuning.

Why does humidity affect my piano?

Pianos are made of wood, which absorbs and releases moisture depending on humidity levels. High humidity can cause swelling and sluggish action, while low humidity can lead to cracks and loose tuning pins. Using a humidity control system or keeping your piano in a climate-controlled room helps maintain its stability ensuring you piano has a long life.

Can I tune my piano myself?

Tuning a piano requires specialized tools and expertise. Attempting to tune it yourself without professional training can damage the instrument. We recommend hiring a qualified piano technician to ensure proper tuning and care.
